Hollow conductors in copper

A hollow conductor carries electrical current while allowing a coolant to flow through its centre. Our drawing unit manufactures these precision copper tubes in round, square or rectangular sections.

Conducting current and removing heat

In induction coils, high-power alternators, transformers and magnets, high currents generate a great deal of heat. The hollow conductor solves this problem: the copper carries the current, while a fluid (water, oil, gas) flows through the inner channel to cool the assembly.

Copper is the natural material for these applications thanks to its electrical and thermal conductivity. Copper hollow conductors are also used in scientific facilities, notably as a stabilising and cooling support around superconducting cables.

Tubes drawn to your dimensions

Our ETIC workshop draws copper tube in round, square, rectangular or profiled sections, with tightly controlled inner and outer dimensions. We adjust the temper by heat treatment and carry out finishing: cutting, bending, brazing, flaring, as well as electrical connection parts to drawing.

  • Round, square, rectangular sections and special profiles
  • Dimensional tolerances suited to coil winding
  • Cutting to length, bending and brazing
  • Electrical connection parts to drawing

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a hollow conductor?

It is a tube-shaped electrical conductor: the copper carries the current and a fluid flows inside to remove heat. It can carry much higher currents than a solid conductor of the same cross-section.

Can you manufacture square or rectangular sections?

Yes, our draw benches produce round, square, rectangular and oval sections, as well as special profiles.
